Scott Vincent: Imminent US Open debut an ‘amazing opportunity’

Zimbabwean golfer Scott Vincent has found great success in Japan, winning three times on the main tour there—twice in 2021 and once in 2022—which helped boost his career after several runner-up finishes since turning pro in 2017. Recently, he qualified for the US Open Final Stage at Tarao Country Club in Japan, tying for first place and securing one of three available spots. This achievement means he will make his US Open debut in three weeks at Oakmont Country Club, marking only his second appearance in a Major tournament.

Vincent expressed excitement about competing in the US Open, recognizing it as one of golf’s toughest challenges and a chance to play against the world’s best. His first Major was The Open three years ago, earned by winning the Mizuno Open in Japan, which also led to his only Asian Tour victory at the International Series England.

The course he qualified on, La Vie Est Belle, resembles a US Open setup with its length, narrow fairways, and fast greens, providing useful preparation. Vincent plans to arrive early at Oakmont to familiarize himself with the course before the tournament.

Despite a mixed start to the season, including missing the cut at the International Series Japan, he has shown strong performances with top-10 finishes in the Philippines and India, and a tie for 12th recently in Korea. He remains optimistic about his form, focusing on steady improvements.

Vincent’s US Open qualification is especially meaningful as he has lived in the US for 12 years, is married to an American, and played college golf at Virginia Tech. He currently splits his time between Florida for golf and Colorado for family.

Heading into the weekend at Korea’s premier event, Vincent is well positioned, just five shots behind the leader. Winning here would secure him a spot in The Open in July, creating a potential triple qualification for The Korea Open, US Open, and The Open.
